JACOB’S WELL MURAL

In 2018 I was commissioned by an apartment complex in Austin, TX to paint the cisterns that they use to collect rainwater. I decided to reimagine a drawing I had previously done that was inspired by Jacob’s Well, a swimming hole located in the Texas Hill Country, not far from Austin.

Jacob’s Well is a perennial karstic spring whose water cave extends down 30 ft and then continues at an angle, creating a unique and beautiful “well” that is popular with swimmers and cave divers.
Using latex paint and a brush, I painted the cisterns over the course of about 8 weeks. It was a time-consuming undertaking due to the scale, the texture of the corrugated metal, the number of coats of paint required and the fluctuations in temperature that caused frequent condensation.
